COUGARS DEFEAT HOST NOR'EASTERS IN MEN'S BASKETBALL

Box Score Biddeford, ME- The Men's Basketball team defeated the host University of New England Nor'Easters 80-70 in the consolation game at the 2013 Ramada Roundball Invitational. The win improves the Cougars record to 1-1 Overall while UNE drops to 0-2 Overall.

In the 1st half, the lead was split 7 times. University of New England jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. The Cougars woud chip away at the lead several times before fully regaining it, with 13:10 left in the half. The Cougars would led by as much as 12pts.

In the 2nd half, the Cougars led for the 1st nine minutes. University of New England would regain the lead for about 2 minutes. Then with 9:22 left in the game, the Cougars Freshman Guard Dwight Montgomery nailed a 3pt. shot, giving the Cougars a 57-56 lead. They would not give the lead for the rest of the game.

In the win, the Cougars were led by Junior Guard Khalid Yousef with 23pts (9-10 FT-FTA). The Queens, NY native tallied 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Junior Forward/Center and Captain Valin Williams scored 15pts (6-10 FG-FGA), and 3-6 (FT-FTA). Williams grabbed a game and career high 27 rebounds (9 of which came offensive). Williams added 2 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. Sophomore Guard and Captain Pablo Segura scored 11pts (3-6 FG-FGA), and (5-6 FT-FTA), grabbed 4 rebounds and added an assist. Freshman Guard Jordan Tyson added 10pts (2-2 from behind the arc).

University of New England was led by Justin Pollard with 27pts. Brayden Morse and Kurt Steiner added 12pts a piece.

Cougars Valin Williams was named to the All-Tournament Team.  

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday Nov. 20th, when they travel to Farmingdale, NY, and take on the Farmingdale State Rams. Game time is 7:30pm.
