COUGARS FALL TO VALAINTS IN AJ BUCHANON CLASSIC

Box Score Purchase, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball Cougars fell to the Manhattanville College Valiants 94-73 in the 2013 AJ Buchanan Classic. The Valiants improve to 2-2 Overall while the Cougars drop 1-3 Overall. 

The Cougars started off slow in front of a racous Valiants student section. Medgar Evers College didn't get on the board until two minutes in, and down 6-2. Manhattanville College led from the opening tip. The Cougars would get as close as 3pts in the entire game, when Sophomore Guard and Captain Pablo Segura nailed a 3pt. shot 11:26 left in the 1st half. The Cougars shot well on the free throw line, shooting 64.2% from the charity strip in the 1st half (9-14 FT-FTA), and 57.89% in the 2nd half (11-19 FT-FTA). 

Leading the Cougars in the loss, was Junior Guard Khalid Yousef with 19pts. The Flushing, NY native was nearly perfect on the free throw line, making 7 out of 9 shots. He grabbed 9 rebounds, and added 2 steals. Sophomore Guard and Captain Pablo Segura and Freshman Guard Stephon Lashley each recorded 17pts. Segura shot 2-3 from 3pt. range, and 1-2 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 6 rebounds, added 3 assists, and a steal. Lashley caromed 7 rebounds, dished out 2 assists, and a block. Junior Forward/Center and Captain Valin Williams led the Cougars with12 blocks. 

In the win, Manhattanville was led by Jack Bramswig with 25pts. In all five players were in double digits, Juan Camacho with 15pts, Andrew Winter (14pts), Anthony Maestre (13pts), and Colin Campbell with 10pts.

The Cougars will play The Catholic University of America Cardinals in the Consolation Game. They fell to Eastern Connecticut State 76-70 in the earlier game. Game time is 1pm.
