COUGARS DEFEAT BARUCH IN THE 2012-13 SEASON FINALE

Box Score New York, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball Cougars defeated the Baruch College Bearcats 72-64 at Baruch College earlier tonight. The Cougars finish the regular on a high note heading into the CUNYAC/Con Edison Men's Basketball Championships as the #5 seed. Their record is 12-13 Overall and 8-8 CUNYAC. The Bearcats drop to 16-9 Overall and 12-4 CUNYAC. They will be the #2 seed in the Championships. 

This game featured 11 ties. In the 1st half, no team led as much as 4pts. Both teams were shooting shot for shot. In the 2nd half, the Bearcats held onto a 4pt lead which lasted 4 minutes. Jovan Deare would tie the game at 38 on a layup with 16:26 left in the game. The Cougars took the lead and built it to a 3pt. advantage. Baruch briefly tied the game at 43 with 14:10 left in the game, until Senior Ricco Oliver nailed a 3pt. shot, regaining the lead for the Cougars and put the nail in the coffin. Baruch would cut the lead to a pt. twice but Medgar Evers pushed the lead out to 10pts and out of reach. 

In the win, the Cougars were led by Sophomore Michael Taylor with 18pts (6-7 FT-FTA). Taylor grabbed 4 rebounds, dished out 2 assists and added a block. Senior Ricco Oliver scored 16pts (5-9 3pt. FG-FGA, 1-4 FT-FTA), grabbed 2 rebounds, dished out 2 assists, and added 2 steals. Sophomore Valin Williams scored 10pts, grabbed 17 rebounds, and added 3 blocks.

The Bearcats in the loss, were led by Raymond De La Cruz with 27pts and Matas Rascius with 12pts.

The Cougars will be playing the #4 seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs in the 2013 CUNYAC/Con Edison Men's Basketball Championships Quarter-Final round. The Bulldogs swept the season series and the Cougars will look to upset their arch rival from a mile away. This is the 1st time, these teams are meeting in the Quarter-Finals since 2002-03, where BC won 84-68. This game will take place on Sunday February 17, 2013 at Brooklyn College. Tip off is at 1pm.
