COUGARS DEFEAT JOHN JAY 81-71 IN MEN'S BASKETBALL

Box Score Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball squad defeated the John Jay Bloodhounds 81-71 at Medgar Evers College. The win improve the Cougars to 10-12 Overall and 6-7 CUNYAC while the Bloodhounds drop to 13-10 Overall and 9-5 CUNYAC.

This was the 2nd meeting between these two squads. The Cougars left John Jay with a bad taste in their mouth, after suffering a 12pt. defeat. They wanted to avenge their loss. In the 1st half, other than an early tie at 2, Medgar Evers College led the entire half. They led by as much as 13pts.
 
In the 2nd half, the Cougars led for the 1st 11 minutes of the half. John Jay knocked the score down little by little. With 9:56 to go, Bloodhounds Isiah Holman made a free throw, tying the score at 55. The Cougars would briefly regain the lead before John Jay snatched it back. The next 5:41 would feature 3 ties, and the Cougars would prevail. Seniors Winston Douglas and Ricco Oliver made clutch shots helping the Cougars survive this tough game.

In the win, the Cougars were led by Sophomore Michael Taylor with 20pts (3-4 3pt. FG-FGA and 5-6 FT-FTA). Taylor grabbed 15 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, and added a steal. Senior Forward Winston Douglas recorded his 17th double double, scoring 19pts (2-5 3pt. FG-FGA and 7-9 FT-FTA) and grabbing 17 rebounds. Douglas added 2 assists and 3 blocks. Sophomore Hector Navarro scored 13pts (9-10 FT-FTA), and Senior Guard and Captain Jovan Deare recorded a double double with 12 and 10. 

In the loss, John Jay was led by Jamar Harry and Darryl Dennis both with 18pts and Michael Howard added 11pts.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday February 6, 2013, when they play the College of Staten Island Dolphins in the home season finale. Tip off is sxheduled for 8pm and can be seen live on http://ustream.tv/channel/mecathletics
