WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL RECORDS 18 KILLS AGAINST SUNY MARITIME

Box Score Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers Cougars Women's Volleyball team fell to the SUNY Maritime Privateers 3-0 (20-25, 19-25, 23-25) earlier tonight. The Privateers improve to 7-10 overall while the Cougars drop to 3-21 overall. 

In the 1st set, the Cougars played toght volleyball. They led twice (1-0, and 4-2) before the Privateers regained the lead. The Cougars would tie the three times (7, 8, and 11). The Privateers would win the set 25-20. In the 2nd set, the Cougars led five times (5-4, 6-5, 8-7, 9-8, and 13-12). SUNY Maritime would take the lead and build 17-13 lead. With the score tied at 19, SUNY Maritime finished the set on a 5-0 run. In the 3rd set, the Cougars played from behind most of the set. The Cougars led just once in the set (18-17). With the score tied at 20, both teams would swap the lead. The Privateers would outscore MEC 5-3 and end the set 25-23.

In the loss, the Cougars were led by Senior Outside Hitter Kiwelewa Mlimwengu with eight kills on 21 total attacks. The Brooklyn, NY native added a service ace, eight digs, and a solo block. Sophomore Outside Hitter Kalifa Roberts tallied seven kills on 24 total attacks. The Trinidadian recorded two service aces and eight digs. Junior Setter AnnMarie Bemberry dished out 11 assists. SUNY Maritime was led by Shannon Brady with 14 kills.     

The Cougars will be back in action on Monday October 20, 2014, when they travel to Farmingdale, NY and take on the Rams of Farmingdale State University. First serve is 7:00pm.
