Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers College Women's Volleyball team fell to the Saint Joseph's College Bears 3-1 (23-25, 15-25, 25-15, 27-29) earlier tonight. The Bears improve to 4-8 overall while the Cougars drop to 3-15 overall.
In the 1st set, it featured three ties. With the match all even at 16, Medgar Evers College took a 19-16 lead. The Bears would take the lead back and go up 22-19. The Cougars would tie the score at 22, before the Bears would go on a 3-0 run, and win the set.
In the 2nd set, Bears led wire to wire. In the 3rd set, the pace was back and forth. The Cougars would tie the match at 4, 8, and 11. They would build a lead at 12-11, and expand it to 20-11. The Bears would make a mini comeback, but the Cougars would win the set 25-15. In the 4th set, the Cougars would take their 1st lead at 8-7. The set featured 12 ties, and both teams would swap the lead at various times. With the score tied at 24, the Cougars would take the lead, and be up 27-24. St. Joseph's College would serve out for the match.
In the loss, the Cougars were led by Senior Outside Hitter
Kiwelewa Mlimwengu with 18 kills on 47 total attacks. Ms. Mlimwengu added two service aces, and added nine digs. Sophomore Outside Hitter
Kalifa Roberts tallied 13 kills on 46 total attacks. Kalifa dished out two assists, added a match high 21 digs, and a solo block. Junior Setter
AnnMarie Bemberry dished out a match high 32 assists.
The Bears in the win, were led by Lauren GaNun with 21 kills. Anna Carbone dished out 26 assists.
The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday October 7, 2014, when they play the Mount Saint Mary College Knights. Game time is 7:00 pm.
