Box Score Brooklyn, NY- The Men's Basketball team fell to the Farmingdale State University Rams 89-83 in 3 OT's. The Rams improve to 2-6 overall while the Cougars drop to 1-8 overall. This is the longest regular season game in quite some time for the Cougars.
In the 1st half, Farmingdale State led for majority of the frame. They would be a lead to seven points and ate 15 minutes off the clock. The Cougars would chip away at the lead before finally tying the game at 21. They would a build the lead to four points, before the Rams regained the lead going to the half, 32-28. In the 2nd half, the Rams continued to lead, and build the lead to seven points. The Cougars would tie the game at 44 and 52, before taking a 55-52 lead, with 4:12 left in regulation. The lead would swap back and forth, before Junior Guard
Matt Walker nailed a 3pt. shot from the corner, giving the Cougars a 62-60 lead, with 00:15 left in the game. After a costly foul from Freshman
Damani Guscott, Eriq Williams made both free throws, and sent the game into overtime.
In the 1st Overtime, the Rams led by three points 65-62, before the Cougars regained the lead, after a a bigh 3pt. shot from Freshman Guard
Reynaldo Eloy, making the score 67-65, with 1:08 left. Farmingdale States Eriq Williams would send the game into double overtime, after a layup, tying the score at 67. In the 2nd Overtime, the Rams led by a bucket, 69-67, before the Cougars tied the game at 69. After a layup from Eloy, giving the Cougars a 71-69, the Rams quickly countered and tied the score at 71. The Cougars would break the tie and go up 77-74, before the Rams countered once again, and tied the score at 77, sending the game into a 3rd OT. In the 3rd OT, the Rams would control the quarter. The Cougars would tie the score at 79, but the Rams would regain the lead 81-79 and not look back.
In the loss, the Cougars were led by Freshman Guard
Reynaldo Eloy with a career high 21 points (4-19 FG-FGA, 2-10 3pt. FG-FGA, and 11-12 FT-FTA). Eloy grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists, and added a steal. Junior Guard
Matt Walker scored 16 points (6-28 FG-FGA and 4-14 3pt. FG-FGA). Walker grabbed six rebounds, dished out a game high nine assists, swiped away two shots, and added a steal. Freshman Forward
Damani Guscott scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Senior Forward
Valin Williams scored 13 points.
Farmingdale State was led by Eriq Williams with 23 points. Three other student-athletes scored in double-digits including the following: Leland Williams (17pts), Justin Bailey (12pts), and Ruben Terrero (12pts).
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday December 13, 2014, when they travel to Annadale-on-Hudson, and play the Bard College Raptors. Game time will be 4:00 pm.
