NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Men's Basketball team defeated the John Jay College Bloodhounds 65-62 earlier tonight. The win improves the Cougars to 3-19, 2-11 CUNYAC while John Jay drops to 4-19, 3-11 CUNYAC.
The Cougars led for the entire 1st half. They would build 12 point lead at one point in the stanza. Cougars led 28-25 at the half. They led by a point, before John Jay took the lead, 29-28 in the 2nd half. Both teams swapped the lead for a minute, before Medgar Evers College, took control. They built a five point lead, before the Bloodhounds chipped away at it. Once again, the lead changed hands four times in a span of six minutes, In all the game was tied four times, and the lead was changed six times, which all occuring in the 2nd half. The Cougars took back the lead for good in with seven minutes to go.
For the game, the Cougars shot 51.1% from the field, 52.9% from 3pt. range, and 57.1% from the free throw line. John Jay shot 40% from the field, 22.7% from 3pt. range, 61.9% from the charity stripe. In the win, the Cougars were led by junior guard
Matt Walker with 25 points (9-15 FG-FGA, 4-5 3pt. range, 3-3 FT-FTA). Matt grabbed a rebound and dished out three assists. Freshman guard
Reynaldo Eloy scored 19 points (7-14 FG-FGA, 5-9 3pt. range, and 0-2 FT-FTA). Reynaldo grabbed three rebounds, dished out an assist, and added three steals. John Jay was led by Kris Owens with 18 points. Ronald Merriwether scored 15 points and Korede Griffith added 10 points. Â
The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday, February.10, 2015, when the College of Staten Island Dolphins come to Brooklyn. Game time will be 8:00 p.m.Â
