Women's Volleyball Loses in Straight Sets to the College of St. Elizabeth

Box Score MORRISTOWN, N.J. –  A balanced service attack helped the College of Saint Elizabeth defeat the Medgar Evers women's volleyball team in straight sets, 3-0 [25-5, 25-5, 25-4], in Morristown Tuesday night.
 
For the Cougars (0-4), Kalifa Roberts (San Fernando, Trinidad/La Romain Secondary) notched the lone kill for the team as well as six digs. Shanice Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bedford Academy) added four digs, while Chavali Guance (Jamaica, N.Y./Brooklyn HS of the Arts) notched three of her own in a losing effort.
 
For the Eagles (2-2), Ashley Morera tallied a game-high 13 service aces, while Carolina Marte and Natasia Wilson each had seven aces of their own. Nicole Morera had 14 assists, while Mikaela Gongora slammed four kills to secure their second win of the season.
 
In the first set, CSE jumped out with five straight points to start the match and would continue their momentum to run away with a 25-5 win.
 
Moving into the second stanza, the Eagles would take advantage of service mishaps from the Cougars throughout.  In total, they would compile 17 service points on aces and errors to take set two 25-5.
 
The third set, Medgar Evers would allow an early lead to CSE and could not chip away as the Eagles built an insurmountable 19-4 advantage. They would wrap up the sweep by tallying the final six points in a row.
 
The Cougars will continue their road stand when they take on the College at Old Westbury in Long Island Thursday night. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
