BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After a conference loss to Staten Island Friday, the Medgar Evers men's basketball looks to start a week of three home games off with a victory over non-conference foe St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Monday afternoon at the Cougars Cave.
The Cougars (7-9, 4-4 CUNYAC) are seeking to shake off a 93-74 defeat against CSI. In the loss,
Matthew Lee (Bloomfield, N.J.) scored a team-best 24 points, including 18 in the second half, to go with five rebounds in a losing effort. They also got 17 points fromÂ
Pablo Segura (Brooklyn, N.Y.), whileÂ
Zavier Coston (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points along with six boards and four assists.
Lee leads the CUNYAC and ranks third in NCAA Division-III with 29.5 points per game and tied for fourth in D-III with 105 free throws made. In just five games with the team,
Justin Sutton is averaging 12.0 points per game and is shooting a blistering 11-for-18 from the three-point range.Â
Maurice Swaby IIÂ (Brooklyn, N.Y.) averages 10.9 points per game, while Coston dishes out a team-best 2.9 assists.
They will be facing a Bears squad (8-7), who have won two of their last games including conference wins over Old Westbury and Maritime this past week. St. Joseph's is led on the offensive end by senior guard Matt O'Neill, who averages a team-high (third in the Skyline) 18.1 points per game along with 4.1 assists and 6.6 rebounds.
On the inside, they have a tandem of Michael Megafu and Jamir Archer. Megafu is second on the team with 15.1 points per game and leads the team and Skyline with 11.4 boards per contest in 12 games. Archer posts a 13.5 points per game average and shoots an efficient 57% (86-for-151) from the field, which ranks third in the conference.
