Outside Shooting Sinks Men's Basketball in 93-85 Loss to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn)

Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team could not stop an impressive performance from beyond the arc as they lost to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn), 93-85, Monday afternoon at the Cougars Cave.

Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) topped the Cougars (7-10) with 25 points, including five three-pointers, along with four assists and three rebounds in a losing effort. Markus Kearney Jr. (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a double-double in his first game with the team with 12 points and 11 boards. They also got 17 points from Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Zavier Coston (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points, 7 rebounds and four assists.

The Bears (9-7) were paced by Matt O'Neill, who led four players in double figures with 25 points to go with nine rebounds and six assists. Michael Megafu recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, including his 1,000th career rebound. Both Jamir Archer (16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) and Alec Willis (15 points, seven rebounds) also tallied double-digit scoring efforts.

St. Joseph's used the long-range shot to earn the victory, connecting on 12-of-23 three-pointers on the day including five from O'Neill and four from Willis. The Cougars also shot well from long distance, drilling 10-of-22 triples, including seven in the second half despite coming up short.

The Bears also controlled the glass, earning a 52-37 edge in the contest. Both teams excelled inside as well, with Medgar Evers scoring 30 points in the paint to 36 points poured in by St. Joseph's.

The next game for the Cougars is a doubleheader with the women's team against CUNYAC opponent York (N.Y.) Wednesday night at the Cougars Cave.
