BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team are looking to shake off a home loss earlier in the week when they face off with CUNYAC opponent York (N.Y.) Wednesday night at the Cougars Cave.
The Cougars (7-10, 4-4 CUNYAC) could not stop an impressive performance from beyond the arc as they lost to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn), 93-85, Monday afternoon at the Cougars Cave.
Maurice Swaby IIÂ (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street) led the team with 25 points, including five three-pointers, along with four assists and three rebounds in a losing effort.Â
Markus Kearney Jr. (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a double-double in his first game with the team with 12 points and 11 boards. They also got 17 points fromÂ
Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.), andÂ
Zavier Coston (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points, 7 rebounds and four assists.
Guard
Matthew Lee (Bloomfield, N.J./Westtown) continues to lead the CUNYAC and ranks third in NCAA Division-III with 29.5 points per game and tied for fourth in D-III with 111 free throws made.
Justin Sutton is averaging 12.8 points per game and has connected on 25-for-52 from three-point range. Coston is the team's top distributor and ranks in the CUNYAC top-10 with 3.0 assists per game.
The Cardinals (5-12, 2-6 CUNYAC) are coming off a commanding 73-46 victory in conference play over John Jay and are looking for back-to-back CUNYAC wins. They have a balanced attack on offense with Ryan Smart pacing the team with 13.2 points per game along with a team-high 8.7 rebounds per contest (fourth in CUNYAC). His double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) was crucial in the win over John Jay earlier in the week.
Rashaan Bailey adds 12.9 points per game with 5.8 boards and is fourth in the conference with 3.5 assists. In four games, Chad Coachman has averaged 13.5 points along with 4.5 helpers while Anthony Mason grabs 6.3 rebounds and scores 8.1 points per contest.
This is the second matchup between the two teams, with Medgar topping the Cardinals on November 24th, 76-58, on the road. Lee led four players in double figures with a game-best 28 points, along with eight rebounds and six assists as the team earned their second straight win.
