Men's basketball senior Joash Beaton wraps-up Medgar Evers playing career with stellar final three games, CUNYAC Sportsmanship team inclusion

On the heels of the 2025-2026 CUNYAC basketball title games, the City University of New York Athletic Conference revealed its end-of-year awards, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Medgar Evers College's men's basketball team was represented by senior standout Joash Beaton, as he was recognized as part of the men's basketball sportsmanship team. Following the announcement of Beaton's recognition, Head Coach Kelvin Bigelow provided his thoughts.

"Joash has been one of the most consistent players on our squad this season," Bigelow said. "From the beginning of the season, all the way through our final contest, Joash exemplified leadership to the highest degree. He was very diplomatic in his approach, as he was extremely coachable, while also not hesitating to give his suggestions to the coaching staff. It's been a pleasure to coach Joash during this 2025-2026 campaign, and it's nice to see him get recognized in his senior season."

Beaton became a very familiar face for the Medgar Evers' men's basketball program since the moment he competed in his first game in November of 2024. Since then, he has approached each game with passion, intensity, and confidence, leading by example and always pushing to play his best for his coaches and teammates.

This season, Beaton competed in 18 games, leading the Cougars in scoring by netting 12.1 points per contest. He also served as the team's most efficient shooter, knocking down 46.2 percent of his attempts from the floor (67-for-145), including a conversion rate of 35 percent from downtown (14-40), and a stellar 75.6 percent efficiency rate from the free throw line (34 for 45).

Beaton went out on a high note for the Cougars, as the senior was a dominant force in the team's final three games of the season, averaging 21 points and nine rebounds during that span while connecting on 45.8 percent of his shot attempts (22-48). In the Cougars' 73-66 (OT) Senior Night victory over CCNY back on February 11, the standout tied for the game-high of 26 points, connected on five triples, and seven of his eight free throw attempts. He also snatched seven rebounds, led all players with four blocked shots, dished two assists, and swiped two steals.
