(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team visited Brooklyn rival St. Joseph's College for a nonconference matchup. The Cougars trailed 39-30 going into the locker room due to some slow shooting. Half of their made baskets were threes going 12 of 32 (36%) from the field in the first half. Freshman guard Shaquan Mitchell (Brooklyn, N.Y) and sophomore guard Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced their team with seven points a piece in the first 20 minutes.
 
            Medgar Evers led by two points with just under two minutes left in regulation but could not hang on for the road victory. Sutton led the way for the Cougars scoring 27 points on just 10 of 14 (71%) shooting while also going 5 of 7 from the line and grabbing five rebounds. Junior guard Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the next high scorer with 20 points on 6-21 (29%) shooting to go along with five rebounds and two steals.
 
St. Joe's leading scorer was Alec Willis, who scored 31 points on a very efficient 12 of 17 (71%) shooting including six threes and three steals. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to an even 1-3 while St. Joe's improves to 1-3 on the season. The men's basketball team is back in action Monday, November 28th when they travel to Mahwah, N.J. for a nonconference matchup. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.
