(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team hosted the Bloodhounds of John Jay in a CUNYAC matchup at the Cougars' Cave on Wednesday night. The Cougars again were in striking distance with 2:32 left trailing by four. John Jay answered back eventually winning by a score of 88-73. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 3-9 (2-5 CUNYAC) while John Jay improves to 3-10 (2-5) on the season.

After one half, Medgar Evers trailed by just six going into halftime despite making just nine shots. They went 9-31 (29%) and 4-15 (27%) from deep. The beginning of the second half has been a struggle for the Cougars this year. They came out slow and let the game get away from them. John Jay had an answer for every Medgar Evers run.

The Cougars were led by sophomore guard Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y) who had a team-high 24 points while grabbing five rebounds before fouling out. Junior guard Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had some early foul trouble and picked up his 4th foul with just under 12 minutes left. Swaby II recorded a double-double scoring 13 points and dishing out 10 assists while also adding six steals.

John Jay was led by Wyatt Harkins who scored a game-high 29 points. Men's basketball is back in action Friday, January 11th when they host Lehman College for a CUNYAC matchup beginning at 8 p.m.
