Box Score Men's Basketball Crushed by Lehman in 111-77 CUNYAC Matchup at the Cave
(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team hosted Lehman College in a CUNYAC matchup at the Cougars' Cave on Friday night. There was a lack of defensive effort for Medgar Evers allowing basket after basket eventually losing by 34 points, 111-77. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 3-10 (2-6 CUNYAC) while Lehman improves to 8-7 (5-3) on the season.
The Cougars struggled against Lehman who forced them into tough situations as well as clamped down the Cougars' offense. At the 13:29 mark, junior guard
Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) knocked down a three from the wing to give his team a 20-19 lead. Immediately after that Lehman went on a 12-0 run pushing their lead to 11. The lead ballooned to as much as 21 eventually trailing 61-45 going into halftime.
The second half was more of the same as Medgar Evers was outscored 50-32. Overall for the game, the Cougars shot 27-71 (38%). The Cougars were led by Swaby II who had a team-high 22 points while dishing out eight dimes and grabbing two steals. Sophomore guard
Joancarlo Bonilla (Woodside, N.Y.) added 13 points while sophomore forward
Joevanny Dambreville (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 10 points and also grabbing six rebounds.
Lehman was led by
Damian Bellamy who scored 23 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Men's basketball is back in action Monday, January 16
th when they travel to Cairn University for a non-conference matchup beginning at 3 p.m.
