            (LANGHORNE, PA) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team traveled to Langhorne, Pa to take on the Highlanders of Cairn University for a non-conference matchup on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Cougars lost a close one on a late free throw with 2 seconds left 69-68. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 3-11 while Cairn improves to 3-11 on the year.
 
            In the first half, it was a balanced attack for Medgar Evers. Their top scorer was junior guard Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who had nine while two other players had 6. As a team the Cougars shot the ball well in the first half going 11-27 (40%) while also knocking down five threes on 50% shooting. The Cougars lead by as many as 10 points with five minutes remaining but Cairn answered back with a 10-3 run of their own to close out the half.
 
            The Cougars led the entire second half until the last two seconds when Cairn's Gerroid Doughty II knocked down the game winning free throw to put the Highlanders ahead for good 69-68. After Swaby II nailed a three from the wing with 2:27 left Cairn went on a 9-2 run to close out the game. A tough loss for the Cougars who could have used a close victory to boost their confidence after struggling the past four games.
 
            The Cougars were led by Swaby II who had a team-high 21 while grabbing four steals. Sophomore guard Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 15 points and six boards.Cairn was led by Doughty II who scored 20 points. Men's basketball is back in action Friday, January 20th when they travel to York College for a CUNYAC matchup beginning at 8 p.m.
