Box Score Men's Basketball Drops 6th Straight with 68-57 Loss to Conference Rival York
(JAMAICA, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball visited the Cardinals of York College in a CUNYAC matchup at the York College Gym on Friday night. The Cougars rallied back cutting the lead to four but ran out of gas late losing by a final score of 68-57. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 3-12 (2-7 CUNYAC) while York improves to 2-15 (2-8) on the year.
The Cougars got the first bucket of the game from junior guard
Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) making it 2-0. Starting with two free throws Medgar Evers went on an 9-0 to take a seven point lead midway through the first half. York answered back with a run of their own tieing the game at 21. York went on another hot streak leading by as many as nine before the first half ended. Swaby II was the high scorer for the Cougars with nine.
The Cougars came out sharp in the second half going on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 36. Swaby II and freshman forward
Joevanny Dambreville (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the run scoring nine of the 11 points. York would pull away over the final 10 minutes.
Swaby II led Medgar Evers with a team-high 16 points. Sophomore guard
Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 13 and eight boards and three steals. Freshman forward
Timothy Bush (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds on the night.
York was led by
Edwin Sainvil who scored a game-high 26 points. Men's basketball is back in action Monday, January 23
rd when they hosts non-conference opponenet Old Westbury. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
