Box Score Men's Basketball Loses to Old Westbury in Lopsided Non Conference Matchup 90-57
(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team hosted the Panthers of Old Westbury in a non-conference matchup at the Cougars' Cave on Monday night. The Cougars hung around after one half only trailing by 10 but a slow start to the second half allowed the lead for Old Westbury to balloon, eventually beating Medgar Evers 90-57. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 3-13 while Old Westbury improves to 9-7 on the year.
Medgar Evers had a good first 10 minutes of the first half as they led the Panthers 20-17. Four minutes after that the Cougars were trailing by eight after a 13-2 run by Old Westbury. Despite a buzzer-beater from beyond half court for sophomore guard
Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) the Cougars still trailed by 10 going into halftime.
The Panthers never let up in the second half pushing the lead to as many as 40 points. The Cougars struggled to shoot the ball going 17-66 (26%) and 5-26 (19%) from deep. Even when Medgar Evers could get to the rim they were denied by the Old Westbury defense which had 10 blocks on the night.
The Cougars were led by Sutton who had a team-high 15 points on 5-8 shooting including 3-5 from three while grabbing five rebounds. Junior guard
Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) struggled shooting on the night but managed to add 11 points.
Old Westbury was led by
Jamail Stanley who scored a game-high 25 points. Men's basketball is back in action Wednesday, January 25
th when they host Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC matchup beginning at 8 p.m.
