Box Score Men's Basketball Falls 78-42 to Staten Island

(STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball visited the Dolphins of Staten Island in a CUNYAC matchup on Tuesday night. The Cougars fell behind fast and could never recover losing by a final score of 78-42. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 4-15 (3-9 CUNYAC) while Staten Island improves to 16-6 (13-0) on the year.

The Cougars scored the first basket of the game but then Staten Island responded with a 15-0 run. As a team Medgar Evers did not shoot the ball well in the first half going 7-30 (23%) causing them to trail by 22 going into halftime. The second half was more of the same as the Cougars only made six of their 22 shots. Staten Island slowed things down in the second half and still managed to outscore Medgar Evers by 14 points.

It was a night to forget for the Cougars as they could not score nor could they slow down the Dolphins. Only one player scored in double figures for the Cougars and that was sophomore guard Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who had 13 points on 3-9 shooting while freshman forward Timothy Bush (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds on the night.

Staten Island was led by Kevon Murphy who scored a 15 points on the night. Men's basketball is back in action Friday, February 3rd when they visit conference rival John Jay in a CUNYAC matchup  beginning at 8 p.m.
