Box Score Men's Basketball Drops Regular Season Finale 102-80 on the Road at CCNY, Swaby II Leads Cougars with 27
(NEW YORK, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers men's basketball team visited the Beavers of City College (NY) in a CUNYAC matchup at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on Monday night. The Cougars did not have an answer for the CCNY offense as they fell 102-80. With the loss, Medgar Evers falls to 4-20 (3-13 CUNYAC) while CCNY improves to 16-9 (12-4) on the year.
Medgar Evers played a solid first half knocking down 48% of their shots as they went 29-60 in the first 20 minutes. The Cougars also went to the line 28 times in the first half due to CCNY's 20 team fouls, they made 18 of the 28 free throws. Medgar Evers hurt themselves because they could not hang on to the ball turning it over 12 times leading to 13 points off those turnovers. The Cougars trailed by just nine, 51-42 after one half of play.
Medgar Evers made some runs in the second half but it was not enough to make a comeback on CCNY. The Beavers extended the lead to 16 in the first four minutes of the second half and never looked back. The Cougars were led by junior guard
Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who had a game-high 27 points and grabbing five rebounds. Swaby II connected on 3-5 shooting from deep. Freshmen
Joevanny Dambreville (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Jovon George (Brooklyn, N.Y.) both tallied 11 points. Freshman forward
Timothy Bush (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high 11 boards on the night as well.
CCNY was led by
Mark Richards who was one of three players that scored at least 20 points, scoring 25. Men's basketball is back in action Thursday, Ferbruary 16
th when they open play in the first round of the CUNYAC tournament.
