The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team faced off against Southern Vermont College in Mahwah, NJ, on Saturday, November 17.
The Cougars (0-3) fell to the Mountaineers (2-2) by a score of 44-33. The matchup was the Cougars' second game of the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament, which Ramapo College is hosting on Friday and Saturday, November 16-17.
MEC demonstrated their resilience and spirit after trailing 22-7 at halftime and 32-10 with three and a half minutes left in the third quarter. After a
Destiny Simmons layup with 2:50 left in the fourth, the Cougars had cut the deficit to just nine points, but ultimately SVC was able to withstand the black-and-gold rally.
Jessycca Myers, who was named to the All-Tournament team, was just three steals shy of a triple-double. After a
rough offensive performance against Ramapo just the night before, the sophomore bounced back like a true competitor with 18 rebounds (including seven offensive rebounds), ten points, seven steals, and four blocks.
Simmons contributed eight points and six rebounds, while
Cyndi Whyte tallied nine boards of her own.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, November 20, for their home opener against Wesleyan University, which will take place at the Cougars Cave beginning at 6:00 pm.
