Men's Indoor Track & Field

Indoor track and field teams turn in dazzling performances at Youree Spence Garcia Invitational

The Medgar Evers College indoor track and field teams began the defenses of their 2023-2024 CUNYAC titles this past Saturday, as the teams competed at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational hosted by St. John's University. The meet took place at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex in Staten Island, NY. Student-athletes on both squads put forth some memorable performances, setting school records and registering personal-bests throughout the course of the day.

Head Coach Hugh Reid quote:

Competing at a Division I meet is no small feat, especially for a young team. It brought its share of pressure, but it was inspiring to see everyone committed to learning and improving. The team's resilience and drive were evident, with the veterans rising to the occasion, breaking records, and pushing their limits.

This performance laid a solid foundation for future success, though it was not without its challenges and missed opportunities. These are natural parts of the learning process, and we're using them as stepping stones for growth. My focus remains on the team's long-term development, and with this mindset, I'm confident they will continue to evolve and achieve new milestones.

Success will come with the right attitude, a commitment to teamwork, and a relentless determination to improve. These qualities will serve us well as we build momentum in the coming months. The key now is to refine areas needing improvement and support each other to stay focused. I'm confident the team will keep progressing and reaching new heights.
