Men's Volleyball Defensive Specialist Shabbir Ahmed voted 2025 CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award Honoree

On Tuesday afternoon, April 15, the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced the league's men's volleyball all-star awards and teams for the 2025 season, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Medgar Evers College was represented by freshman defensive specialist Shabbir Ahmed, as he was tabbed the league's Sportsmanship Award winner. Following the announcement, Cougars' Head Coach Vaughn Ford praised Ahmed.

"Ahmed has been such a positive addition to the men's volleyball program here at Medgar Evers," Ford said. "Shabbir is a player who is always locked in, giving us 100 percent in practices, during matches, and off the court as well. He established himself as one of the team's mainstays, contributing to the best of his abilities consistently. Additionally, throughout the 2025 campaign, he showed a tremendous amount of respect to his teammates, the coaching staff, the opposing student-athletes, and the officials. I'm very proud to have Shabbir represent this program as we move into a new era."

Ahmed showed tremendous consistency this season, as he was one of only five Cougars to appear in 16 matches or more. During the 2025 campaign, the freshman was a terrific defensive presence, leading the squad with a total of 45 digs.
