Veteran Jennifer Metra registers three kills in Cougars' straight sets defeat to Bloodhounds

Box Score The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team suffered a loss in its conference opener last night, falling to the defending CUNYAC titlists by scores of 6-25, 11-25, and 8-25. The match took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 0-4 on the season (0-1 CUNYAC), while the Bloodhounds improved to 4-2 (1-0 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Jennifer Metra registered a team-high three kills on the evening. Maritza Argueta's six digs led all players, and Sariyah Brumaire finalized her evening with five digs and a team-high three assists.

Alex Overkamp led John Jay College with a match-high seven kills on 12 attempts (7-3-12, .333). Jadyn Orava contributed six kills (6-0-8, .750) and tied for the match-high of six service aces, and Theresa Scmitt (5-1-6, .667) added five kills and four service aces for the visitors. Four different players earned at least one assist for the Bloodhounds, including Adrienne Xiao, as she led all players on the evening with 15.

John Jay College led the match from start to finish, registering 28 kills while earning a .258 percentage (28-12-62). The Bloodhounds also notched 28 service aces on the evening, and yielded just four kills to the Cougars. Medgar Evers did hold a 21-18 edge in digs, with three Cougars notching five or more.

Medgar Evers will look to get back on track on Thursday evening, as the team travels to Riverdale, NY to battle the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent. Start-time for the non-conference clash is scheduled for 6:00pm.
