Men's basketball undone by Cougars' red-hot shooting as Beavers win CUNYAC contest convincingly

Box Score The Medgar Evers men's basketball team suffered a defeat on Friday evening, falling to the Beavers of the City College of New York by a score of 100-58. The contest took place at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-17 on the 2025-2026 campaign (0-6 CUNYAC), while CCNY improved to 3-12 on the year (3-3 CUNYAC).

Nicholas Bocharov and Joash Beaton tied for the Cougars' team-high of 11 points. Bocharov also added five rebounds and a pair of assists, and Beaton snatched two rebounds and added two dimes. Ahmed Toure scored nine points and collected seven rebounds, and Justin Rosario finished with seven points and two boards.

Six players scored in double figures for the Beavers, including Justin Morety, as he registered game-highs of 21 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. Komron Ergashev connected on four triples, finishing with 14 points, and David Leye netted 13 points while collecting six rebounds. Michael Bowman scored 12 points, dished a game-high seven assists, snatched five boards, and added two steals, and Chris Popotte (12 points, four rebounds, two assists) and Olabanjo Aborisade (10 points, six rebounds, a game-high three blocks, and two assist) also played key roles in the win.

The Beavers set the tone early, racing out to a commanding 54–28 after 20 minutes of action thanks to sensational shooting and relentless defensive tenacity. CCNY earned a shooting percentage of 67.7 percentage in the opening half.
The hosts held a 30+ point advantage for the final 13:10 of the game, never allowing the Cougars an opportunity to get back into the CUNYAC clash.

CCNY was incredibly efficient all evening, connecting on 42 of 71 shot attempts (59.2 percent), while also draining eight out of nine attempts from the stripe (88.9 percent). Medgar Evers nailed just 24 out of 75 attempts (32 percent), while draining six out of 14 shots from the stripe (42.9 percent).

The Beavers held a healthy 50-40 advantage in the rebounding department, while also holding edges in assists (33-10), steals (13-3), and blocked shots (6-0). Each team committed 17 turnovers on the evening.

Medgar Evers returns to action on Wednesday evening, as the Cougars will return home to host the Hunter College Hawks. Start-time for that CUNYAC clash is scheduled for 7:00pm.
