Indoor Track & Field teams show growing consistency and competitive readiness with excellent effort at Frank Colden Invitational

This past Saturday, the Medgar Evers College Indoor Track & Field program returned to action at the Frank Colden Invitational, competing in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, against a strong field of NCAA Division II and III programs. Those programs included Ursinus, Penn State, Widener, Rutgers–Camden, Rutgers–Newark, Swarthmore, Gallaudet, and other regional contenders.
 
Across all event groups, the Cougars continued to show steady progress as the season moves closer to the conference championship phase. Medgar Evers student-athletes delivered multiple CUNYAC qualifying performances, personal bests, and strong finishes against high-quality competition, reflecting the program's growing consistency and competitive readiness.

Notable Performers for the Women: Rinnah Brown and Thenica Thompson

 
Rinnah Brown anchored the women's field events with a strong and versatile showing across multiple disciplines. She placed 13th in the long jump with a mark of 4.47 meters, and followed with a 9th-place finish in the triple jump, recording 9.64 meters. Brown also contributed on the track, finishing 11th in the 200 meters with a CUNYAC qualifying time of 28.11, and played a critical role on the women's 4x200-meter relay, which placed 2nd overall. Her ability to contribute meaningfully across both field and relay events underscores her value to the team.
 
Thenica Thompson delivered a strong and balanced performance on the track, contributing both individually and as part of a relay unit. She placed 13th in the 60 meters with a CUNYAC qualifying time of 8.43, and followed with a 7th-place finish in the 200 meters, running 27.74, another CUNYAC qualifier. Thompson also played a key role on the women's 4x200-meter relay, helping the team earn a 2nd-place finish with a time of 1:53.36.
 
Additional Women's Highlights:

Danajah Lawrence put forth a solid performance in the 60 meters, placing 12th (8.42) and earning a CUNYAC qualifying mark. Later, Lawrence earned another conference qualifier by finishing the 200-meter event in 28.86.
Kenia Irish-Bramble continued her consistency in the 400 meters, posting a CUNYAC-qualifying time of 1:07.69.
The women's 4x200-meter relay of Brown, Thompson, Irish-Bramble, and Lawrence delivered one of the team's top performances of the meet, placing 2nd overall with a time of 1:53.36. 
 
In the field events, Jada Lambert recorded a personal best of 1.35 meters in the high jump.
 
Notable Performers for the Men: Reco Griffith, Omari Hins, and Pharell Fowler
 
Reco Griffith delivered a championship-caliber performance, establishing himself as one of the top sprinters in the conference this week. He captured 1st place in the men's 60 meters with a time of 6.99, earning both CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying standards, and demonstrating elite early-season speed. Griffith followed that performance with a 3rd-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 23.03, another CUNYAC qualifier. He also played a key role in the men's 4x200-meter relay, helping the team place 5th overall with a time of 1:37.07.
 
Omari Hinds delivered a strong and consistent multi-event performance across the jumps, anchoring the men's field events with multiple high-level finishes. He placed 3rd in the high jump, clearing 1.80 meters, a CUNYAC qualifying mark, and followed with another 3rd-place finish in the long jump, leaping 6.64 meters, also a CUNYAC qualifier. Hinds rounded out his day with an 11th-place finish in the triple jump, recording 11.61 meters.
 
Pharell Fowler continues to emerge as one of the conference's most promising young sprinters, delivering impactful performances across multiple events. Fowler placed 12th in the 60 meters with a CUNYAC qualifying time of 7.22, and followed with a standout 2nd-place finish in the 200 meters, running 22.97, another CUNYAC qualifier. He also contributed to the men's 4x200-meter relay, helping the squad place 5th overall.

Additional Men's Highlights:
 
Leshaun Miller qualified for CUNYAC in the 60 meters with a time of 7.33.
 
David Awaye registered a personal-best in the 200 meters (25.70) and 400 meters (59.60),
 
David Chisolm achieved a personal-best in the 800 meters (2:33.69)
 
Zachary Bussey earned personal-bests in both the mile (6:05.59) and 3000 meters (11:40.42).
 
The men's 4x200-meter relay of Griffith, Fowler, Miller, and Awaye placed 5th overall with a time of 1:37.07.
 
Michael Ortega competed in both the shot put (11.05m) and weight throw (10.84m), earning a CUNYAC qualifying mark in the weight throw.

As the season continues to progress toward the conference championships, the Ursinus Invitational provided valuable competition and clear indicators of the team's upward momentum.

The Medgar Evers indoor track and field teams return to action on Saturday, as the teams will travel to the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center in Utica, NY to compete in the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational. Start-time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
