This past Saturday, the Medgar Evers College Indoor Track & Field program returned to action, competing in the Schuylkill Showcase with several high-quality performances across a demanding two-day meet. Day One featured the throwing events at Widener University, while Day Two shifted to the running and jumping events at the Ott Center for Track & Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

Facing a deep and competitive field that included NCAA Division II and III programs such as Rowan, Lincoln University, Stockton, TCNJ, Ursinus, Swarthmore, Cheney, West Chester, and Widener, the Cougars represented themselves with resilience, professionalism, and growing competitive maturity. Across all event groups, Medgar Evers student-athletes demonstrated clear progress, producing multiple CUNYAC qualifying performances, AARTFC regional qualifiers, school records, and personal bests.

Quote from Coach Reid:

"We showed significant improvement and consistency across the board this weekend", Reid said. "As we move into the start of the semester, performances like these give us a clearer picture of where we are and how we need to adjust. The foundation is there, and now it's about continuing to push for faster times, further throws, and higher and longer jumps as the season progresses."

Notable Performer for the Women: Brianna Lindo

Brianna Lindo continued to establish herself as one of the program's most versatile performers. She placed 6th in the 800 meters, running 2:29.36, a performance that earned a CUNYAC qualifier, personal best, and new Medgar Evers College school record. Lindo also placed 6th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.39, meeting CUNYAC and AARTFC standards, and finished 4th in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters. In the triple jump, she placed 6th with a leap of 10.66 meters (34'11.75"), a performance that not only earned a CUNYAC qualifying mark but also set a new Medgar Evers College school record. Lindo rounded out her weekend by competing in the long jump, shot put, and weight throw, highlighting her exceptional versatility.

Additional Women's Highlights:

Other notable performances by the Cougars' women's squad included Danajah Lawrence posting a personal best of 8.35 in the 60 meters, Thenica Thompson qualifying for CUNYAC in both the 60 meters (8.40) and 200 meters (27.07), and Nana Samake competing in the mile. Additionally, the women's 4x400-meter relay of Rinnah Brown, Jennifer Metra, Jada Lambert, and Lindo placed 9th with a time of 4:24.77. In the throws, Sarah Vallon recorded personal bests in both the shot put (6.92m) and weight throw (6.33m).

Notable Performers for the Men: Reco Griffith, Omari Hinds, and Pharell Fowler

Reco Griffith delivered an elite sprint performance that firmly established him as one of the top sprinters in the conference this week. He placed 17th in the 60 meters, clocking 7.07, earning a CUNYAC qualifying mark. Griffith followed that with a standout run in the 200 meters, where he placed 9th overall with a time of 22.14, a performance that currently leads the CUNYAC conference. Competing against a deep field that included strong Division II and III programs, Griffith's ability to place and post the top 200-meter time in the conference underscores his consistency, speed, and competitive maturity. His performance was a major factor in Medgar Evers College's success at the meet.

Omari Hinds turned in an outstanding multi-event field performance, earning CUNYAC qualifying marks in three separate jumping events. He placed 5th in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters (6'0"), followed by a 15th-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.35 meters (20'10"). Hinds capped his day with a strong showing in the triple jump, placing 14th with a distance of 12.28 meters (40'3.5"), another CUNYAC qualifier. His ability to compete and qualify across multiple field disciplines underscores his versatility, consistency, and value to the Medgar Evers College program.

Pharell Fowler continued his impressive rookie campaign with strong sprint performances, earning CUNYAC qualifying marks in both events he contested. Fowler placed 22nd in the 60 meters, running 7.12, and followed with a 10th-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 22.19. Competing against experienced Division II and III athletes, Fowler demonstrated composure, speed, and consistency beyond his experience level. His ability to qualify in multiple sprint events as a first-year athlete makes him one of the most impactful rookies in the conference this week.
