Medgar Evers College outdoor track and field All-American Reco Griffith earns second place in 100-meter dash at Barbados National Championships

Medgar Evers College outdoor track and field All-American Reco Griffith continued to snatch headlines yesterday at the Barbados National Championships, as the standout earned a second place finish the 100-meter dash event at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex (Bridgetown, Barbados). Following the accomplishment, Head Coach Hugh Reid praised Griffith.

"Reco Griffith's performance at the 2026 Barbados National Championships is a testament to what can be achieved through hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in yourself," Reid said. "Finishing second in the men's 100 meters against some of the Caribbean's finest athletes and running an outstanding 10.39 seconds is an incredible accomplishment that should make everyone associated with him proud. I am extremely excited for Reco and all that he has achieved this year. He has dedicated himself to pushing the boundaries of his potential and has worked tirelessly to break into the elite levels of our sport. As a Division III student-athlete, he has often been overlooked and underestimated, but performances like this prove that talent, commitment, and determination matter far more than labels or divisions."

Griffith's runner-up finish at the Barbados National Championships demonstrates that he belongs on this stage, showing the ability to sustain elite-level performances against world-class competition. This result could potentially earn him opportunities to represent Barbados internationally at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.

Reco's journey is a powerful reminder that dreams are achievable when one is willing to dedicate him/herself to excellence, while refusing to accept limitations imposed by others. He continues to show that Division III athletes can compete with anyone, anywhere, and that greatness is earned through relentless effort.
