Women's volleyball defeated in straight sets by Scarlet Raptors in non-conference action in Camden, NJ

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday evening at the Rutgers-Camden Gymnasium. The Cougars were unable to overcome a strong Scarlet Raptors attack, falling by set scores of 1-25, 4-25 and 5-25. Medgar Evers fell to 0-2 on the season with the defeat, while the hosts improved to 4-2.

Medgar Evers struggled to generate offensive momentum throughout the match, finishing with one kill on 19 total attacks. Bryanna Merger accounted for the Cougars' lone kill, while Danajah Lawrence recorded Medgar's only assist.

Rutgers-Camden controlled the match offensively, finishing with 17 kills on 22 attacks (.636 hitting percentage). Cassie Guim led the Scarlet Raptors with 11 service points, including 11 aces, while Jana Jovanovic contributed four kills and Haven Ford added two kills. 

Despite the difficult result, the Cougars will look to regroup this Saturday, as the team travels to King's College PA's McGrane Gymnasium (Wilkes Barre, PA) to compete in a tri-match. Medgar Evers will clash with SUNY Purchase at 2:00pm, before taking on King's College at 4:00pm. ir 2026
