COUGARS BEAT BROOKLYN COLLEGE IN 2 OT IN EPIC MEN'S SOCCER MATCH

Brooklyn, NY- On Friday Oct.21, 2011, the Cougars faced off against boro rival Brooklyn College Bulldogs in the season finale for the conference at Aviator Sports Center in Brooklyn, NY. The Bulldogs looking for their first conference win and the Cougars looking to move up in the standing with a win. The Cougars won the game 4-3 in 2 OT's. The win improved the Cougars record to 4-14 Overall and 3-5 CUNYAC while the Bulldogs ended their season at 2-11-2 Overall and 0-7-1 CUNYAC. The win move the Cougars into 7th place because they beat CSI earlier in the season which was tied with them in the standings. 

The match started in favor of BC. In the 19th minute, Steven Favaloro scored his first of 3 goals in the match. He scored off a deflected shot by his Colin Cargile. It was 1-0 BC. 2 minutes later, Favaloro struck again, this time it was 2 players that helped him out. His goal keeper and Cargile once again, left Favaloro one on one with MEC keeper Stanley Ballantyne. This made the score 2-0 BC. They would take this lead into the break. It was dead even in shots in the 1st half 12-12.

Start of the 2nd half and MEC took ball possession. After a foul right past midfield, Borris Pendie setup a free kick. He nailed the shot in the upper left corner, past the leaping BC keeper Stamatis Boundouris. This cut the lead to just a goal. MEC had a couple more chances to score, until the 65th minute, when conference leader goal scorer Zeakiel Daley scored after a missed penalty kick. This tied the game at 2 and was his 17th of the season. Eleven minutes later, BC struck back, when Favaloro scored on a penalty kick. This made the score 3-2 BC. Fast forward 4 minutes and another pk situation. This time Daley made good on his chance to tie the game at 3. BC would have a golden opportunity to score when Miguel Veliz-Fitz hit the post with a minute to go in regulation. 

In the first overtime, both teams had chances to score, but the shots were high. With 20 seconds left, MEC's Wayne Williams had a chance to win it, but his header went wide left.

In the second overtime, MEC took all the shots. Finally with 20 seconds left, Lerone McIntosh would set up for a corner kick. He bended the ball into the back of the net, sending the Cougars home with a hard fought victory.

MEC outshot BC 29-19 for the match. For the goal keepers, Cougars Stan Ballantyne played all 109:40, gave up 3 goals and made 9 saves. His counterpart Stamatis Boundouris also played the 109:40 minutes, gave up 4 goals and made 15 saves.

The Cougars will be back in action in the season finale against Rowan University on Monday Oct.23, 2011. Game time is set for 7pm at Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, NY.
