Box Score Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers College Women's Volleyball team defeated the College of Old Westbury Panthers 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-10). The win improved the Cougars to 3-14 Overall while the Panthers drop to 0-9 Overall. This was the 2nd win for the Cougars against Old Westbury this season.
The 1st set featured back and forth volleyball. With the score tied at 9, the Cougars took over, and dominated the set. The 2nd set can be best described as a tug of war. With the Cougars down 23-20, they would tie the score at 23. With the score tied at 24, Sophomore
Charlena Mackey served two aces, and won the set. This was her 1st match of the season. In the 3rd set, the Cougars led wire to wire.
In the win, the Cougars were led by Senior Outside Hitter
Kiwelewa Mlimwengu with a match high 13 kills on 37 total attacks. The Brooklyn, NY native added a match high six service aces, and 13 digs. Sophomore Outside Hitter
Kalifa Roberts tallied six kills. Junior Setter
AnnMarie Bemberry dished out a match high 20 assists.
In the loss, Old Westbury was led by Fareeda Roushdy and Ruth Vargas with three kills apiece. The Cougars will be back in action on Thursday October. 2, 2014, when they play the St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn Bears at Medgar Evers College. First set is 7:00pm.
