Men's Cross Country

Cross country teams rewrite record books at Lincoln University (PA) Championship Tune-up, MSMC Fall Festival

The Medgar Evers College men's and women's cross country teams put forth some strong performances last week competing at both the Lincoln University (PA) Championship Tune-Up (October 16) and the Mount Saint Mary College (NY) Fall Festival. During those two aforementioned meets, the student-athletes broke numerous school records and achieved multiple personal-bests, as the Cougars continue to make strides with the CUNY Championship meet on the horizon.

Coach Reid's Quote about Lincoln University (PA) Championship Tune-Up

"Our student-athletes continue to rise to the occasion and make history," Reid said. "At the Lincoln University XC Invitational Tune-Up, competing against several strong HBCU programs, both our men's and women's teams held their own and showed how well they're rounding into form heading into the conference championship.

This was another milestone meet for Medgar Evers College Cross Country, and I couldn't be prouder of how our athletes continue to perform and represent our program with excellence."

Women's Output at Lincoln University (PA) Championship Tune-Up

On the women's side, freshman sensation Brianna Lindo broke the 4K school record with a stellar 17:54.15 performance to finish 4th overall. Duranya Gayle showed the brilliance as well, clocking the third-fastest time in school history to finish 10th. Kenia Irish-Bramble, continuing her remarkable return to form, ran the 4th-fastest time in program history to place 15th. Senior Nana Samake added a strong performance with the 7th-fastest time—just 10 seconds off her personal best—while freshman Maritza Argueta ran a huge personal record to enter the top ten all-time at No. 9. The women's team's collective effort earned them an impressive 3rd-place finish.

For the Cougars' men's squad, sophomore Joshua Felix led the charge, setting a new school record with an incredible 16:22.36 to finish 6th overall. Medgar Evers also recorded the 1st, 2nd, and 7th-fastest times in school history. Freshman Zachary Bussey delivered a masterful personal best of 17:06.56, and junior Jahiem Johnson continues to show great improvement, as he finished 16th overall, crossing the tape at 18:39.2. Rounding out the Cougars runners were David Chisholm (21st overall, 20:32.9) and Reco Griffith (22nd overall, 21:37.6).

Coach Reid's Quote about Mount Saint Mary (NY) College Fall Festival

"This was a breakthrough moment for our program, Reid said. "Going up against some of the region's top teams, our women showed incredible heart and determination — earning the team victory at the MSMC Fall Pumpkin Run!

This was an inspiring performance from top to bottom — proof that our athletes are coming together at just the right time. As we head into championship season, we're building confidence, momentum, and belief in what Medgar Evers College Cross Country can achieve."

Women's Output at Mount Saint Mary (NY) College Fall Festival

Lindo once again made history, breaking the 5K school record with a time of 21:46.9 to finish 2nd overall. Irish-Bramble continued her strong comeback, running the 2nd-fastest time in school history to finish 6th. Samake and Gayle both delivered clutch personal bests, finishing 8th and 9th respectively, sealing the win for the Lady Cougars.
