2025 CUNYAC XC Championship Fallout: Women make history with runner-up finish, men capture fifth place

Results

The CUNY Athletic Conference held its 2025 championship meets this past Sunday morning at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, and the Medgar Evers student-athletes put forth a plethora of tremendous performances, leaving everything out on the courses. As teams, the Cougars' women finished in the top three for the first time as a program, claiming second place out of six competing squads. The men finished fifth out of six participating teams. Following the completion of the meet, Head Coach Hugh Reid praised his student-athletes.

"I am extremely proud of the way our student-athletes competed at the CUNYAC championship meets," Reid said. "Van Cortlandt Park is a tough course to navigate, and these young men and women improved so much running here, and it really showed. Every student-athlete that represented our institution gave everything they had, exemplifying a competitive spirit throughout the entire meet. Our women's squad made history, placing in the top three for the first time. It was fantastic to see the team's hard work and sacrifice pay off in historical fashion. As for our men's squad, these young men pushed themselves the entire season, and I'm proud of the diligence they exemplified as well. We look forward to continuing to prosper at ECAC's and NCAA Regionals."

In the women's 6K meet, freshman Brianna Lindo put forth yet another stellar performance, placing seventh overall, crossing the tape at 26:59.6. Kenia Irish-Bramble crossed the line seventh with a 28:15.5 effort, while Nana Samake was 13th (29:17.0).  Duranya Gayle was 15th for MEC with a personal-best time of 29:31.2. Martiza Argueta rounded out the female Cougar representatives on the morning, as she finished 31st overall with a time of 32:07.2 (personal-best). Lindo, Irish-Bramble, Samake, and Gayle earned CUNYAC All-Star status for their top-15 finishes.

Joshua Felix, just as he has done most of the season, clocked in as the men's team's top finisher, as he finalized the 8K course 24th overall with a time of 34:52. Coming in behind Felix was newcomer Tiego Brown, as he earned a 28th place finish (35:53.3.), and Zachary Bussey was the third Medgar Evers male runner to complete the course, as he came in 37th, crossing the finish line at 38:09.2. Rounding out the finishers for the men's team were Jahiem Johnson (39th overall, 38:48.4) and David Chisholm (45th overall, 40:18.3). The times for Felix, Brown, Bussey, and Chisholm were all personal-bests.

Hunter College men's and women's teams made it a clean sweep, both taking home championships. The Hawk men captured their fifth straight conference crown, breezing past the competition with 28 points. Baruch College was the next closest finisher with 45. The Hawks' women's squad won its 11th straight CUNY title, winning the competition with 40 points. Medgar Evers earned 68 points, and was the runner-up.

The Medgar Evers men's and women's cross country teams will return to the course on Saturday, November 8, as the teams will travel to the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, NY to compete in the ECAC Championships. The women's competition gets underway at 10:30am, followed by the men's race at 11:15am.
