Women's Indoor Track & Field

Cougars open 2025-2026 campaign with sensational showing at Crowell Invitational & Multi

The Medgar Evers College Indoor Track & Field programs opened their 2025-2026 seasons with statement performances at the Crowell Invitational and Multi, hosted at the historic Army–Gillis Field House at West Point. Facing competition from Division I institutions West Point, Columbia, Manhattan College, and the University at Albany, the Cougars battled through a demanding two-day schedule and rose to the challenge. The team showcased poise, depth, and resilience — earning multiple CUNYAC qualifiers, school records, personal bests, and AARTFC regional qualifying marks.

Quote from Coach Reid:

"This meet reminded us what happens when preparation meets opportunity," Reid said. "Facing Division I programs can be intimidating, but our athletes rose to the moment with confidence, composure, and hunger. The way they handled adversity—breaking records, earning regional qualifiers, and supporting each other every step—showed the heart of this team. We still have room to grow, but the foundation is solid. With the right mindset and a commitment to daily improvement, there is no limit to what this group can accomplish."

Top Performances from the Cougars:

Reco Griffith delivered one of the strongest sprint combinations of the weekend. He placed 3rd in the 60m (7.05) after running a CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying 7.00 in the prelims. He followed that with the 4th-fastest 200m in program history (23.11/22.71c) and closed the meet as a key leg on the 3rd-fastest 4x400m team in MEC history.

Chrisnel Nicolas completed the heptathlon with 3,615 points, setting a new MEC school record and delivering top-tier field event marks throughout the competition. The veteran finished in second place in the High Jump, fourth in the Pole Vault, 10th in the Long Jump (5.66 meters), ninth in the Shot Put (10.32 meters), seventh in the 60-Meter Hurdles (9.87, CUNYAC Qualifier), 12th in the 60-Meter (7.88), and 10th in the 1,000-Meter (3:33.55). His combination of jumping, hurdling, and throwing was the strongest multi-event field performance of the week in the conference.

Pharell Fowler made a powerful collegiate debut. He ran a PR and CUNYAC-qualifying 7.27 in the 60m before placing 6th in the 300m with the 2nd-fastest time in MEC history (36.44/35.83c). Fowler capped his weekend by helping the Cougars run the 3rd-fastest 4x400m time ever recorded at MEC.

Toshel Goffe opened her season with championship-caliber speed, placing 4th in the 60m (7.82) and winning the 200m in 26.10 (25.71c). Both marks qualified her for CUNYAC and AARTFC while ranking as the second-fastest times in school history.

Brianna Lindo scored 2,888 points to finish 4th in the pentathlon, setting a new MEC school record and earning an AARTFC regional qualifying mark. She soared to 2nd place in the high jump (1.50m), added a strong long jump of 4.67m, and launched a conference-leading 9.05m weight throw on day two. Overall, Lindo totaled 2,888 points in the pentathlon—a new school record and AARTFC qualifier—while setting school record and CUNYAC Qualifying leading marks in the 60m hurdles and 800m, while also posting top-three finishes in multiple events.
