The Medgar Evers College, Indoor Track & Field teams dominated the CUNYAC awards distinctions for the period of January 26 through February 1, as
Brianna Lindo (Track Athlete of the Week, Field Athlete of the Week, & Rookie of the Week),
Reco Griffith (Track Athlete of the Week, Rookie of the Week),
Omari Hinds (Field Athlete of the Week), and
Pharell Fowler (Rookie of the Week) combined for six honors, making it a clean sweep for the Cougars this week.
All of the aforementioned distinctions were earned due to the student-athletes' stellar performance this past weekend (January 31-February 1) at the Schuykill Showcase.
Brianna Lindo continued to establish herself as one of the program's most versatile performers. She placed 6th in the 800 meters, running 2:29.36, a performance that earned a CUNYAC qualifier, personal best, and new Medgar Evers College school record. Lindo also placed 6th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.39, meeting CUNYAC and AARTFC standards, and finished 4th in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters. In the triple jump, she placed 6th with a leap of 10.66 meters (34'11.75"), a performance that not only earned a CUNYAC qualifying mark but also set a new Medgar Evers College school record. Lindo rounded out her weekend by competing in the long jump, shot put, and weight throw, highlighting her exceptional versatility.
Reco Griffith delivered an elite sprint performance that firmly established him as one of the top sprinters in the conference this week. He placed 17th in the 60 meters, clocking 7.07, earning a CUNYAC qualifying mark. Griffith followed that with a standout run in the 200 meters, where he placed 9th overall with a time of 22.14, a performance that currently leads the CUNYAC conference. Competing against a deep field that included strong Division II and III programs, Griffith's ability to place and post the top 200-meter time in the conference underscores his consistency, speed, and competitive maturity. His performance was a major factor in Medgar Evers College's success at the meet.
Omari Hinds turned in an outstanding multi-event field performance, earning CUNYAC qualifying marks in three separate jumping events. He placed 5th in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters (6'0"), followed by a 15th-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.35 meters (20'10"). Hinds capped his day with a strong showing in the triple jump, placing 14th with a distance of 12.28 meters (40'3.5"), another CUNYAC qualifier. His ability to compete and qualify across multiple field disciplines underscores his versatility, consistency, and value to the Medgar Evers College program.
Pharell Fowler continued his impressive rookie campaign with strong sprint performances, earning CUNYAC qualifying marks in both events he contested. Fowler placed 22nd in the 60 meters, running 7.12, and followed with a 10th-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 22.19. Competing against experienced Division II and III athletes, Fowler demonstrated composure, speed, and consistency beyond his experience level. His ability to qualify in multiple sprint events as a first-year athlete makes him one of the most impactful rookies in the conference this week.
The Medgar Evers College indoor track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, as the squads will head to Collegeville, PA to compete in the Frank Colden Invitational, hosted by Ursinus College. Start-time for the meet is to-be-announced.
