Women's Indoor Track & Field dominates CUNYAC weekly distinctions (2/10-2/16), capturing two awards, honorable mention

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its women's indoor track and field honorees for the period of Monday, February 10 through Sunday, February 16, and the Medgar Evers Cougars dominated the distinctions due to their tremendous performance's at Cornell University's Kane Invitational this past Saturday. Rinnah Brown was selected the conference's Rookie of the Week, while Nia Butler collected the Rookie of the Week honor. Veteran Kenia Irish-Bramble earned an Honorable Mention accolade for her efforts. Following the announcement of the awards, Head Coach Hugh Reid praised his student-athletes. 

"It is extremely gratifying to see Rinnah, Nia, and Kenia get recognized by the CUNY Athletic Conference," Reid said. "They competed in a very tough meet, attended by some of the strongest regional and national juggernauts on the East Coast, and still made a tremendous statement. They are truly deserving of these honors that have been bestowed upon them."

Rinnah Brown had a breakout meet this past weekend, setting two personal bests. She placed 15th in the 400m (1:04.64, converted to 1:03.80, CUNYAC qualifier, ranked 1st in the conference) and cracked the top 25 in the 200m (27.89, converted to 27.47, CUNYAC qualifier). She also ran a CUNYAC qualifying time of 10.15 in the 60m hurdles.

Nia Butler dominated in the throws, placing top 15 in the weight throw (12.02m, CUNYAC qualifier). She also finished 23rd in the shot put (8.57m), continuing her rise as a top contender.

Kenia Irish-Bramble delivered historic performances at the Kane Invitational. She placed 7th in the 500m (1:27.11, converted to 1:26.01, 4th fastest in MEC history), finished 16th in the mile (6:14.49, converted to 6:10.82, CUNYAC qualifier), and achieved another PR in the 3000m (12:49.48, converted to 12:42.94, 2nd best in MEC history, CUNYAC qualifier).

The Medgar Evers College women's indoor track and field team will return to action this weekend, traveling to the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center in Utica, NY to compete in the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational, hosted by Utica University. Start-time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
