Outdoor Track and field teams turn in strong performances at Silfen Invitational this past Saturday

The Medgar Evers College outdoor track and field teams continued to showcase their skills during this 2025 campaign, this past weekend, competing at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College. The Cougars turned in a plethora of tremendous performances, continuing to make strides as the season gets set to enter its latter stages.

Top Performances from the Cougars

Chrisnel Nicolas delivered a phenomenal two-day performance at the Silfen Invitational, placing 6th overall in the decathlon while rewriting the MEC record books. His score of 4396 not only set a new school and program record, but also highlighted his versatility with top 5 finishes in 6 out of 10 events. Nicolas secured a CUNYAC qualifying mark in the 110m hurdles (17.26) and pole vault (2.75m), and set three personal records in the 110H, high jump, and 1500m. His all-around excellence makes him a clear standout for Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Omari Hinds showcased his elite field talent at the Silfen Invitational, qualifying for CUNYAC in not one, but three jumping events. He claimed 1st place in the high jump (1.80m), while also earning 4th place finishes in both the long jump (6.27m) and triple jump (12.31m). His ability to consistently compete at a high level across multiple events makes him one of the most dynamic and dependable field athletes in the conference.

First-year standout Joshua Felix turned in a strong all-around showing at the Silfen Invitational. He placed 14th in the javelin (35.04m) and finished in the top 25 in both the 200m (24.12) and 400m (56.07), while also competing in the 800m (2:27.75). Felix's versatility across sprint and field events demonstrates immense promise and poise, making him a top rookie performer this week.

Toshel Goffe was electric at the Silfen Invitational, placing 2nd in the 200m with a blazing CUNYAC and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 25.44—now 4th all-time in MEC history. She also anchored the 4x100m relay team to a 6th place finish (52.67), currently the fastest time in CUNYAC this season. Goffe rounded out her impressive weekend with a personal best in the javelin (22.77m), proving she's not only a sprinter to watch but a versatile threat across disciplines.

Kenia Irish-Bramble had a breakout performance in the heptathlon at the Silfen Invitational, finishing 11th overall with a score of 2456—now 2nd all-time in MEC history. Her endurance and adaptability were on full display as she posted six new personal bests across the javelin, shot put, long jump, high jump, 200m, and more. She also clocked a CUNYAC qualifying time of 2:43.69 in the 800m, underscoring her ability to compete at a high level across the board.

Brown also recorded two impressive PRs, including a CUNYAC qualifying time of 27.68 in the 200m and a solid 2:48.34 in the 800m. Her performance not only set a high bar for first-year athletes but also positioned her as a key contributor moving forward.
