Cougars gear up for CUNYAC championship meet with dazzling effort at Jack Malloney / Jim Barber Invitational

The Medgar Evers College outdoor track and field teams delivered another strong showing this past weekend, as the Cougars dazzled at the Jack Malloney / Jim Barber Invitational. The meet was hosted by Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT. The Cougars, who are incredibly focused, set a plethora of school records while earning regional respect.

Top Performances from the Cougars

Chrisnel Nicolas impressed by qualifying for CUNYACs in the 110m hurdles (17.44), setting PRs in both the 400m hurdles (1:01.98) and the steeplechase (12:39.77), finishing 4th and 6th in his events. His grit and endurance were on full display across three tough events.
 
Omari Hinds had a record-breaking meet, highlighted by his school-record long jump of 6.86m and a CUNYAC/AARTFC qualification. His PR of 1.90m in the high jump further showcased his dominance in the field events.
 
Reco Griffith continues to shine in his rookie campaign, clocking a CUNYAC qualifying 22.31 in the 200m and playing a key role in the record-breaking 4x100m relay.
 
Toshel Goffe earned CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying marks in the 100m (12.44) while also placing 3rd in the 400m (59.83), solidifying her position among the region's top sprinters.
 
Rinnah Brown set a new MEC school record in the long jump with a leap of 5.00m, and added a top performance in the triple jump (10.02m), continuing her outstanding rookie season.
 
Thenica Thompson qualified for CUNYACs in both the 100m and 200m, and helped her 4x100m relay team place 3rd. Her speed and reliability across events make her a critical piece of the Cougars' success.

Additional Men's Results/Feats

Rupert Luard-Charles set personal bests in the 110m hurdles (20.12) and the high jump (1.65m), and qualified for CUNYACs in the long jump (6.05m).
 
Joshua Felix ran a PR in the 400m with 53.77, and finished 9th in javelin with a CUNYAC leading and qualifying throw of 42.61m.
 
Daniel Forbes ran a PR in the 400m hurdles, clocking 1:05.39 for 10th place.
 
Zach Bussey finished 5th in the 5k, running 21:22.91.
 
The men's 4x100m relay team of Jahiem Johnson, Reco Griffith, Zion Young, and Omari Hinds ran a blistering 43.07, setting a new MEC school record and qualifying for the AARTFC Regionals.
 
Dontay Washington matched a personal best, clearing 1.65m in the high jump.
 
Ahmed Toure hit a PR with a 1.60m clearance in the high jump.
 
Additional Women's Results/Feats

Maritza Argueta ran a new personal best in the 5k, clocking 25:37.38.
 
Kinnik Timothy finished 5th in the steeplechase with a time of 22:07.54, the 4th fastest time in MEC history.
 
Jada Clayton finished 10th in the women's hammer throw with a CUNYAC qualifying toss of 27.82m, ranking 3rd all-time at MEC.
 
Raine Williams set a new PR in the hammer throw with a mark of 22.39m.
 
Jada Lambert hit a PR in the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.30m and finished 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.62m.
 
The women's 4x100m relay team of Toshel Goffe, Thenica Thompson, Shaniya Chung, and Kenia Irish-Bramble finished 3rd with a time of 52.34.

The Cougars will return to action this Saturday, as both teams will compete in the 2025 CUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, looking to stake their claim as conference titlists.
