Men's Cross Country

Cougars perform sensationally at Herb Lorenz Cross Country Invitational, setting numerous records

The Medgar Evers cross country teams put forth a fantastic showing this weekend at the Herb Lorenz Cross Country Invitational (hosted by the College of New Jersey), with several student-athletes setting personal records, and one achieving a new school record. The women's team came in fourth out of seven competing institutions, while the men's finished seventh out of seven squads. Following the completion of the meet, Cougars Head Coach Hugh Reid spoke glowingly about this teams.

"I am incredibly proud of how our athletes pushed themselves on the course—showing grit, determination, and heart every step of the way," Reid said. "On the women's side, the team is beginning to find their rhythm, building the foundation for a squad that has the potential to finish among the very best in CUNY. Their hard work and progress were on full display, earning them a 4th-place team finish in the 5K. The men's team showed tremendous heart and determination, battling through the 6K course to earn a 7th-place team finish. With so many PRs, this group continues to prove that they are on the rise."

Brianna Lindo put forth a dazzling effort for the Cougars, earning 17th place by setting a new personal-record, and achieving a school record, by crossing the tape at 22:39.4. Nana Samake finished behind Lindo, achieving a 28th place finish and a personal record, coming in at 24:54.1. Rounding out the female finishers for Medgar Evers were Kenia Irish-Bramble (33rd overall, 27:01.1), Duranya Gayle (34th overall, 27:05.02, personal record), and Aaliyah Bartholomew (38th overall, 28:47.).

On the men's side, veteran Joshua Felix achieved a personal record, as he was the first Cougar to cross the tape, finishing 30th overall with a time of 24:54.8. Rookie Tiego Brown finalized the meet 36th overall with a personal record time (27:54.2). The final three Cougars finishers were Reco Griffith (44th overall, 30:16.9, personal record), Jahiem Johnson (45th overall, 30:36), and Leshaun Miller (49th overall, 33:57).

The Cougars' cross country teams will return to action next Saturday, as the teams will travel to Galloway, NJ to compete in the Osprey Open, hosted by Stockton University. The men's race begins at 10:30am, followed by the women's run at 6:15pm.
