Medgar Evers cross country squads open 2025 campaigns at Stevens Institute's Back to the Bowl Invitational

The Medgar Evers men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2025 campaigns this past Saturday morning, putting forth some hearty efforts at the Back to the Bowl Invitational, hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology. The meet took place at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, NJ. Both squads finished 9^th out of 10 competing squads, but the student-athletes gave it their all, showing tremendous potential for the new campaign.

"I am very excited to have started our Cross-Country Season at the Back to the Bowl Invitational," Head Coach Hugh Reid said. "The students pushed themselves on what was a very humid day, putting forth a solid collective effort given the circumstances. With a tremendous combination of hungry veterans, as well as freshmen who want to prove themselves, I believe our student-athletes will only continue to improve their times as get into the thick of the season."

In the women's 5K meet, newcomer Brianna Lindo was the first Cougar to cross the finish line, placing 43rd overall with a time of 26:07.4, and veteran Nana Samake was the second Medgar Evers runner to cross the tape, coming in 82^nd (28:07.1). Rounding out the female Cougar runners were Thenica Thompson (58^th place, 31:19.8), Maritza Argueta (60^th place, 31:40.7), and Toshel Goffe (70^th place, 36:02.5).

The Medgar Evers men's squad was led by returner Joshua Felix, as he placed 63rd overall in the 5K race, finishing with a time of 21:41.1. Jahiem Johnson was the second male Cougar representative to finish the meet, as he claimed 76^th place with a time of 24:36.1. Rounding out the Medgar Evers finishers were Reco Griffith (85^thplace, 28:41.6), Leshaun Miller (87^th place, 31:52.4), and Kimahli Reid (88th place, 33:35.3).

The Cougars will return to action on Friday evening, as the teams will travel to Green Lane (Ewing, NJ) to compete in the Herb Lorenz Invitational. Start-time for the women's meet is 5:30pm, followed by the men's competition at 6:15pm.
