Medgar Evers College soccer standouts Shackoneal Myrurrie of the men's team and Shanya Aitcheson of the women's squad earned City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) weekly award distinctions for their performances during the period of October 19–25, 2026.
Myrurrie delivered a prolific offensive week, totaling five goals and one assist for 11 points as the Cougars men's soccer team posted a 2-1 record and clinched its first CUNYAC Championship playoff berth since 2015. The freshman forward played a pivotal role in Medgar Evers' postseason push, producing decisive moments in victories over Immaculata University and Hunter College before adding another goal against Baruch College.
Against Immaculata, Myrurrie recorded two goals and an assist in a thrilling 3-2 victory. The freshman capped his performance by scoring the game-winning goal in the 77th minute, helping the Cougars secure a crucial victory. He continued his scoring surge against Hunter, finding the back of the net twice in a span of just 74 seconds during a commanding 4-0 triumph. The performance helped Medgar Evers build momentum as the team secured its place in the conference postseason.
Myrurrie also scored from the penalty spot in the Cougars' 2-1 setback against Baruch, extending his productive stretch to three consecutive matches with a goal. His five-goal, one-assist week underscored his importance to the Medgar Evers attack as the Cougars achieved a significant milestone in their program's recent history.
On the women's side, senior goalkeeper Shanya Aitcheson earned recognition after delivering a standout performance in Medgar Evers' 1-0 victory over Saint Elizabeth University. Aitcheson recorded six saves while keeping the opposition off the scoreboard, anchoring a defensive effort that secured the Cougars' first victory since September 13, 2017.
Aitcheson's shutout proved instrumental in preserving the narrow one-goal advantage, as the senior came through with six stops to help Medgar Evers finish the match with a clean sheet. Her performance represented a memorable moment for a program working to build momentum and marked a significant achievement for the veteran goalkeeper.
The weekly honors highlight the contributions of two Medgar Evers standouts who made their presence felt at critical points in their respective seasons. Myrurrie's offensive production helped propel the men's team to its first CUNYAC playoff appearance in more than a decade, while Aitcheson's six-save shutout helped the women's squad end a lengthy wait for a victory.
