Men's Indoor Track & Field

Indoor Track and Field standouts Reco Griffith, Omari Hinds continue stellar '25-'26 campaigns with more CUNYAC accolades

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the period of Monday, February 2 through Sunday, February 8, and the Medgar Evers men's indoor track and field team was well represented, as standout Reco Griffith was selected the Track Athlete of the Week, and Omari Hinds was tabbed the Field Athlete of the Week. The two aforementioned student-athletes garnered the honors following their sensational efforts at the Frank Colden Invitational this past Saturday (2/7). Following the announcement of the awards, Head Coach Hugh Reid gave his thoughts.

"It brings me great gratification to see Reco and Omari continue to get recognized for their diligent efforts this season," Reid said. "Reco is the top performer in the CUNYAC in the 60 meter and 200 meter events, while Omari is the standard in the high jump and long jump competitions. It's great to see them continue to raise the stakes in those events, and we're looking forward to seeing them continue to perform at a high level as we barrel towards the postseason meets."

Reco Griffith delivered a championship-caliber performance, establishing himself as one of the top sprinters in the conference this week. He captured 1st place in the men's 60 meters with a time of 6.99, earning both CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying standards, and demonstrating elite early-season speed. Griffith followed that performance with a 3rd-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 23.03, another CUNYAC qualifier. He also played a key role in the men's 4x200-meter relay, helping the team place 5th overall with a time of 1:37.07.

Omari Hinds delivered a strong and consistent multi-event performance across the jumps, anchoring the men's field events with multiple high-level finishes. He placed 3rd in the high jump, clearing 1.80 meters, a CUNYAC qualifying mark, and followed with another 3rd-place finish in the long jump, leaping 6.64 meters, also a CUNYAC qualifier. Hinds rounded out his day with an 11th-place finish in the triple jump, recording 11.61 meters.

The Medgar Evers men's indoor track and field team returns to action on Saturday, as the team will travel to the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center in Utica, NY to compete in the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational. Start-time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
