Indoor Track & Field continues to collect CUNYAC accolades as four student-athletes earn distinctions for the period of 2/9-2/15

The Medgar Evers College, Indoor Track & Field teams continued to garner CUNYAC recognition, dominating the conference distinctions for the period of Monday, February 9 through Sunday, February 15, as Brianna Lindo (Rookie of the Week), Reco Griffith (Track Athlete of the Week), Omari Hinds (Field Athlete of the Week), and Pharell Fowler (Rookie of the Week) all earned honors.

The four aforementioned student-athletes earned their accolades following stellar performances this past weekend at the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational (February 14) at the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center in Utica, NY

Brianna Lindo delivered a high-impact performance on the track, competing across multiple events while producing conference and regional qualifying marks. She placed 6th in the 60-meter hurdles, running 9.50, a time that met both CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying standards. Lindo also contributed to the women's distance medley relay, helping the team place 3rd overall with a time of 15:23.60.

In the field events, she delivered another outstanding multi-event performance. She placed 3rd in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters, earning a CUNYAC qualifying mark, and also competed in the long jump, recording 4.64 meters. In the throws, Lindo posted a personal best of 8.00 meters in the shot put and followed with 7.97 meters in the weight throw.

Reco Griffith delivered an elite-level sprint performance, solidifying himself as one of the conference's premier short sprinters. He captured 1st place in the men's 60 meters with a time of 6.99, meeting both CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying standards. Griffith followed with a strong 4th-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 21.88, another CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifier, demonstrating consistency at championship-level speeds across multiple events. He also contributed to the men's distance medley relay, helping the squad place 4th overall.
 
Omari Hinds anchored the men's field events with a dominant and versatile performance across the jumps. He placed 3rd in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters, a CUNYAC qualifying mark, and followed with a standout 2nd-place finish in the long jump, leaping 6.88 meters, meeting both CUNYAC and AARTFC standards. Hinds also placed 8th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.68 meters (fifth-best mark in school history), another CUNYAC qualifier, while adding a personal best in the 60 meters (7.48).
 
Pharell Fowler delivered a breakthrough performance that highlights his emergence as one of the top young sprinters in the region. Fowler placed 2nd in the 200 meters, running 21.80, a time that earned CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying standards while also setting a new Medgar Evers College school record. He followed that performance by winning the 300 meters in 36.13, another school record, showcasing exceptional speed endurance. Fowler also contributed in the high jump, recording a personal best of 1.45 meters.

The Medgar Evers College indoor track and field teams will return to action on Friday and Saturday, as the teams will travel to the Springfield College Field House (Springfield, MA) to compete in the Triangle Classic. Start-times for both days are to-be-announced.
