Cougars earn runner-up placements at CUNYAC outdoor track and field championships; Brianna Lindo, Omari Hinds named MVPs

The Medgar Evers Cougars competed at the 2026 CUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Icahn Stadium on Saturday afternoon. In what was a very competitive meet all around, both Cougar squads settled for second place, solidifying runner-up placements.

Champion Hunter College scored 176 points to capture its first outdoor crown since 2008. Medgar Evers scored 167 points on the day, taking second. CCNY (122) edged out Lehman (118) for fourth, while York (4) rounded out the field.

Medgar Evers' women's team put forth a hearty effort, but the Cougars had to settle as the runners-up, coming in second place to champion Hunter College. The Hawks claimed the outdoor title for the sixth consecutive season by scoring 223 points, while the Cougars finished with 199. CCNY took third with 101 points, with Lehman (53) and York (2) rounding out the field.
 
Men's Meet Highlights
 
Omari Hinds was named the championship's Most Valuable Performer.  He took first place in the long jump (6.23 meters), triple jump (12.22 meters) and high jump (1.78 meters).  He also took second in the 110 meter hurdles (17.14) and was fifth in the 100 meter dash (11.71). 

Reco Griffith set a pair of meet records and was also part of a relay record.  He took gold in the 100 meter dash in 10.48 seconds while placing first in the 200 with a time of 21.23 seconds. 
 
The Cougars' 4x100 relay, consisting of Griffith, Leshaun Miller, Pharell Fowler and Jahiem Johnson, won in a championship-record 41.89 seconds.
 
Women's Meet Highlights
 
Freshman Brianna Lindo was named the meet's Most Valuable Performer after a dominant performance that saw her win nine events on the day.  On the track, Lindo finished first in the 100 (12.61), 200 (25.87), 400 (59.54), 100 meter hurdles (15.37) and 400 hurdles (1:09.64).  In field events, Lindo was first in the hammer throw (30.19m), triple jump (10.18m), high jump (1.46m) and long jump (4.85m).
 
Kenia Irish-Bramble placed first in the 3000 steeplechase for Medgar Evers (14:07.66),
 
The Cougars' 4x100 relay took first in a time of 51.92 seconds, consisting of Lindo, Rinnah Brown, Danajah Lawrence and Jada Lambert.
 
Up Next for the Cougars

The Cougars' outdoor track and field teams will resume their season this Friday, as the teams will travel to Williamstown, MA to compete in the Farley Inter Regional, hosted by Williams College.
