COUGARS FALL TO CCNY 2-1 IN OVERTIME IN MEN'S SOCCER

New York, NY- A rain soaked windy Wednesday on Oct.19, 2011, the Cougars Men's Soccer team lost to the City College Beavers 2-1 in OT. The match took place on Randalls Island off the island of Manhattan, NY. The Beavers improved to 6-10-1 Overall and 4-4 CUNYAC while the Cougars dropped to 3-14 Overall and 2-5 CUNYAC.

The game was pretty even in the 1st half, as both teams had plenty of opportunities to score. The Cougars tallied 10 shots in the half compared to CCNY's 11. The Cougars got on the scoreboard first when in the 14th minute, Zeakiel Daley scored on an assist from Ibrahim Diallo. This was Daley's 16th goal of the season which leads the team and the conference. It was 1-0 Cougars until late in the half, when James Maynard of MEC fouled CCNY's Fisnik Prishtina in the penalty area. CCNY's Head Coach Roberto Ignaccolo elected for goalie Tayfun Kucuk to make the shot. Kucuk nailed the shot and tied the game at 1 going into the half.

The 2nd half was played well by both teams. Both squads had chances to score despite the weather not cooperating. The Cougars outshot the Beavers 11-7 in the half.

The game went to overtime and CCNY played a free kick near the Cougars net. The ball deflected off Ibrahim Diallo of MEC and into his own net for an own goal and the game winner in the 99th minute. It was a tough pill for the Cougars to swallow but they are in the postseason for the CUNYAC and are the 8th place team.

For the keepers, Chris Welsh of MEC played 99:01 minutes, gave up 2 goals and made 5 saves. Tayfun Kucuk of CCNY played 99:01, gave up a goal and stopped 7 shots.
