Four members of Medgar Evers men's soccer program earn CUNYAC All-Conference honors for 2026

Medgar Evers College men's soccer head coach Kevin Blackstock and three standout student-athletes have earned prestigious recognition from the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), due in part of the standout performances of each of the aforementioned individuals during what has been a program resurgence for the Cougars.

Blackstock was named the CUNYAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year, while Shackoneal Myrurrie, Kevin Blackstock Jr. and Marlan Evariste Jr. were each selected First-Team All-Conference. Myrurrie also earned Rookie of the Year honors, and Evariste Jr. was recognized with a selection to the conference's Sportsmanship Team.

The awards represent several historic milestones for the Medgar Evers program. Blackstock becomes the first Cougars men's soccer coach to receive Coach of the Year recognition since Stanley Harmon earned the distinction in 2002. Myrurrie is the program's first Rookie of the Year selection since Zeakiel Daley in 2011. Additionally, Medgar Evers has three All-Conference selections for the first time since 2023, following a season in which the program did not produce an All-Conference honoree.

In his first season at the helm, Blackstock has orchestrated one of the most remarkable turnarounds in program history. After finishing 1-13-1 a season ago, the Cougars have surged to a 10-3-2 record, earning their first CUNYAC Tournament appearance since 2015 and advancing to the conference championship game for the first time since 2002.

Myrurrie has been at the forefront of Medgar Evers' resurgence, delivering a sensational freshman campaign. A three-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selection, Myrurrie leads the Cougars with 15 goals and four assists for 34 points. He has also recorded six game-winning goals, establishing himself as one of the conference's most dangerous offensive threats.

His postseason performances have been particularly memorable, as he scored the decisive goal in both of Medgar Evers' CUNYAC Tournament victories. Most recently, Myrurrie delivered the golden goal in overtime of Saturday's semifinal triumph over Hunter College, sending the Cougars to their first conference championship match in 24 years.

Blackstock Jr. has also been instrumental in the Cougars' offensive success, ranking second on the team with 19 points and seven goals. His two match-winning goals, combined with his ability to create opportunities for his teammates, have made him one of Medgar Evers' most productive attacking players throughout the campaign.

On the defensive side, Evariste Jr. has established himself as the Cougars' premier shutdown defender, anchoring a backline that has helped produce a remarkable 272:50 consecutive shutout streak. Medgar Evers has surrendered just 22 goals through 15 matches this season, with Evariste Jr. playing a pivotal role in the team's defensive transformation. With four individual conference honors and a historic season already secured, the Cougars now turn their attention to the biggest match of the year.

For the first time since 2002, Medgar Evers will compete for the CUNYAC Men's Soccer Championship this Saturday, as the Cougars travel to York College to take on the John Jay College Bloodhounds in the conference title match at 10:30am.
