COUGARS FALL TO YORK CARDINALS IN CUNY/APPLEBEES MEN'S SOCCER QUARTERFINALS

Jamaica, NY- The Men's Soccer team ended their season in a heartbreaking loss to the York College Cardinals on Wednesday Oct.26, 2011 4-3 in OT. It was in the CUNYAC/Applebees Quarterfinals. York improved their record to 7-11 Overall while the Cougars ended their 2011 campaign with a 4-16 record. 

In the first half, York dominated the ball recording for the first 10 minutes. Nine shots were taken by the Cardinals, either high from the net, wide from the net or keeper Chris Welsh made the save. Finally, at 9:51, York got on the board when Rachidi Amadou scored off a rebound of his own shot. This made the score 1-0. Not even a minute later, MEC got on the scoreboard when Stan Ballantyne received a pass from Zeakiel Daley at 10:16, to tie the game at 1. After the York got the ball back, MEC quickly regained possession. At the 13 minute mark, Mohamed Jalloh make a corner kick and Lerone McIntosh would knock it into the back of the net, to make the score 2-1 MEC. Both teams would have chances to score, and finally in the 32nd minute, York tied the game when Jordan Chin lifted the ball in the air and Rachidi Amadou headed the ball into the net. This tied the game at 2 and was Amadou's 2nd of the game. York outshot MEC 13-3 in the half.

In the 2nd half, MEC dominated the ball possession. York would get an opportunity to take the lead. In the 78th minute, York would record a shot on goal which was saved by Welsh, another shot was headed wide, and finally Kevin Gonzalez scored assisted by Menard Millus (79:35). This made the score 3-2 York. Not even 2 minutes later, MEC would tie the score at 3, when Freshman standout Zeakiel Daley received a pass from James Maynard. This was Daley's 19th goal of the season. York outshot MEC 10-6.

In the overtime session, it was back and forth action. York recorded a shot wide. Zeakiel Daley made a nice shot but was saved by York keeper Qudus Kassim. Lerone McIntsoh recorded back to back shots, but were both wide of the net. Finally in the 98th minute, York had the ball and Andre Adelson scored assisted by Rachidi Amadou. Adelson was on a breakaway with the goalie Chris Welsh. This made the score 4-3 and advanced York into the CUNYAC/Applebees SemiFinals.

For first year Head Coach, David Peters and his coaching staff Hugh Chin and Nkosi Dick, it was a season of growing pains but also much improvement in the 2 months of the season. The team has alot of talent that will look to improve over the summer and rest of the year until they hit the pitch for training in 2012.
