Bronxville, NY- The Medgar Evers Cougars were defeated 6-3 to Sarah Lawrence College on Monday Sept. 12, 2011. The Gryphons improved to 0-1 while the Cougars dropped their record to 0-5.
The game had a delay start, after lightning struck in the distance of the field. About a half hr later from the original 7pm start, the game was underway. The Cougars took ball possession first and in the 5th minute, got on the scoreboard. Freshman
Lerone McIntosh scored unassisted. It was his 1st of the season. The Gryphons would tie the game at 1 in the 19th minute, from a goal by Sebastian Hermann. Right near the end of the half, Medgar Evers had the ball and was passing it to each other trying to create a scoring chance. In the 42nd minute, Senior and one of two captains
Orando Brewster scored which was assisted my McIntosh. At the half, the Cougars led 2-1. It was the 1st time this season they had the lead.
Four minutes into the 2nd half, the Gryphons took control and never looked back. They would score 5 more times, 3 of which were scored by Phillip Naess.
Orando Brewster of Medgar Evers, scored his 2nd of the match in the 81st minute, which was unassisted.
For the keepers, Cougars
Christopher Welsh gave up 6 goals and stopped a season high 9 shots. His counterpart Sean Fitzgerald played 70 minutes and allowed 2 goals and stopped 5 shots, and Elliot Warlous, who came in with 20 minutes left, allowed a goal and stopped 4 shots.
The Cougars were outscored 22-15 and were playing with 10 men for the last 23 minutes of the game, when
Lerone McIntosh received his 2nd Yellow Card and ultimate Red Card.
The Cougars will be back in action, on Wednesday Sept. 14, 2011, when they start the conference schedule and face John Jay Bloodhounds at the Met Oval in Maspeth, NY. Game time is set for 4pm.
