Yonkers, NY- The Men's Soccer team suffered their 10th straight loss and 14th straight dating back to last season when they fell to Hunter College 5-2 on Saturday Sept. 24, 2011. That was their 3rd loss in the conference this season while the Hawks improved to 3-4-1 Overall and 2-0 CUNYAC.
The Cougars played well at the start of the match. Six minutes into the game,
Zeakiel Daley scored for the Cougars, making the score 1-0. It was his 3rd of the season. The game play was back and forth after the goal, as both teams played well passing the ball and defending. In the 41st minute, Hunter would tie the game on Diego Mercado first of 2 goals, making the score 1-1. The score would be like that at the half. In the half, Hunter outshot MEC 15-9.
The 2nd half, didn't start off the way the Cougars wanted. One minute into the half, Mercado knocked his 2nd goal of the game, making the score 2-1 Hunter College. Hunter would add 2 more goals from Saif Zureikat (70th and 74th minutes), making the score 4-1. Fast forward to the 83rd minute and a nice low pass from the left side of the field by
James Maynard to Kevin Emmanuel (1st of the season), making the score 4-2 Hawks. Hunter would follow up with one more goal from Eduardo Delgado, making the score 5-2, which would be the final. MEC was outshotted 21-9 in the half.
For the keepers, Chris Welsh of MEC played the full 90 minutes, gave up 5 goals while making a season high 14 saves. Hunter College's Zade Haobsh played 74 minutes, gave up a goal and made 7 saves. Emmanuel Aprilakis played 15 minutes, giving up a goal while making 2 saves.
The Cougars next game is a big test against Brooklyn College. It will be a battle for the 8th spot in the CUNYAC standings. Game time is 4pm on Wednesday Sept. 28, 2011 at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, NY.
